If not correctly placed or if I'm breaking any rule please remove or delete.

A few times people have asked me if I have some sort of book with my pictures, this has been spinning in my head and I love the idea to have a nice 30x30cm or A4 size book with some 30-40 pictures in it full page.

I have been contacting some small printers and the costs for sale would run in the 30,00 euro's (arround 39,00 US dollars).
To be honest a bit high I think, the advantage is I can order runs of 20 each print, so the risc is rather low.

Is there an alternative that someone knows of ?
and is this a fair price for an end user, the profit on the book would be arround 10% but the idea is not to make money of it to be honest.

Greetings,
Frank

For a print run as small as that, you will find lots of problems with printers and their prices.

In the past, whenever I have done calendars or anything like that, I have printed them myself. Maybe thirteen pages per calendar, 13"x19" page size, with a one square foot (or larger) photo on the top. Maybe 20-30 copies.

By printing them myself, I had complete control over print quality. Ink cost runs me roughly one dollar per square foot, at least for the density of my photos. Paper cost was another dollar per page. However, it takes a lot of time.

www.lulu.com (external link) is a print on demand service that has great prices. Not sure about shipping to Europe though.

Again there is a potential quality issue. That sort of thing is extremely important when printing a book of photos.

A few people I know design & print their own books using Photoshop, InDesign, and Epson printers. Then they have a bookbinder make the cover & put it together for them. Higher quality and more control this way, but of course it costs a lot more time & money. For this type of service I recommend: www.fastbackbooks.com (external link)

I'm very interested in how you make out with lulu.
I do a lot of work for a non profit organization here, and I think If we were to make a season 'yearbook' of sorts, it would sell well to make money for the organization.

Canon EOS Digital Gear, Light and Luck.
Not always in that order.:)

Today I received the books.
I must say I'm impressed :D
The quality of the photo's is good and the pricing is right, offcourse a glossy print is better but we are talking about arround $19.00 per book and for that money I don't think you can get it better.

www.lulu.com/doorhof (external link)

yes, it's a lulu book.
It's an overview of my best work from 2004-2005.
I'm now working on a book with work from now on with an explanation how I did the shoots, some with diagrams some with notes, but alway's a small story with the pictures.
