Waterproof bag for DSLR and compact - heading to Central America in rainy season

I'm going to Nicaragua and Costa Rica during the rainy season and will be doing some hiking in pretty tropical circumstances. I've started to think I will probably need something to protect my cameras as it will be relatively humid, and also for circumstances where I will be near/in the water (kayaking, snorkelling etc.).

My two cameras are Canon 350D DSLR (pretty old and not too expensive, but expensive enough for me to replace!) and a Canon Powershot SX120.

I looked at Aquapac - has anyone used them, any good? I'm after something relatively inexpensive (as there are quite a few other things that I need to buy as well) but practical that will keep my equipment dry. Rain sleeves might be good otherwise, but what about storage when on a hiking trip in the jungle for a few days?

I realise that my gear isn't quite for professional quality pictures, but I also think that if I don't protect my gear, there's a chance I won't take many pictures after the first ones on a 2-month trip...

Any advice or experience would be most appreciated!

If you just need an inexpensive way to keep your camera gear dry while hiking, I'd recommend a roll-top drybag. You'll still need to figure out a system for shooting in rainy conditions, but for the storage part, drybags are great. I like to keep a towel inside the drybag for cushioning the equipment, and to dry off your hands before you grab the camera/lens.

That's a good idea - I think I might get one of those Aquapacs for my point-and-shoot (for any really wet conditions, where I probably wouldn't have time to mess around with my SLR anyway) as they're only about £20 and then a drybag like you suggest for the SLR. Possibly supplement that with some rain sleeves for shooting in rainy conditions?

AFAIK All Lowepro bags with the suffix AW come with a "raincoat" that covers the entire bag from practically a monsoon soaking. It might not protect the gear from falling in a river but for precipitation you would be protected ( until you need to access a piece of gear) You might also want to consider packing some of the shipping air bag "cushions" to help it float just in case you accidently find that chuck hole is deeper than expected.
