Storage while on holiday

Hi

I am going to Nepal for just over 2 months on Saturday. I will be taking A LOT of photos and have 4 4GB cards but I need another larger way to store them and perhaps another for backup.

I have thought about using something online or also physical storage is an option (but not too heavy - I can't take a laptop for example!)

Any ideas are greatly appreciated

Look at the Hyperdrive options. One of them will offer you enough space to download your photos to, then format and reuse the chip. You might want to consider a 16 or 32 GB card so you won't have to change cards so frequently. Depends on the MB size of each photo you shoot.

If you don't need a viewing screen, the Digital foci are good value.

I have the canon m80. Its light not so bulky as a laptop and has a 80gig hd for plenty of storage.

For that length of time, I would go with online storage. That way, you don't have to worry about the storage device being lost/stolen or even damage. I would check to see the places that I'm staying have business areas, where they have computers with internet connection OR an internet cafe nearby. Then just buy a CF USB card reader and connect them to the computers and upload your photos.

Forget online storage. I'm not totally sure about Nepal, but I'd be willing to bet quite a bit of money that internet connections that allow you to upload several GB quickly and easily will not be very common.

I use the Hyperdrive Colorspace and it'll be going with me to Kenya next month. It's capacious, fast and has a long battery life. My friend will be taking hers and we'll back up each other's cards as well as our own to ensure we have two copies of everything. I may even take my netbook as tertiary backup and to view the photos.

And I know some guys not lucky enough to have a friend like that, who have bought an extra Hyperdrive to make a backup of the backup, for security's sake. A couple hundred bucks is not much to guarantee coming home with the shots of a once in a lifetime trip.

And you can save money on two of them by buying the cases only and installing your own harddrive. You can pick up 500GB 2.5" drives for about $50-$60 now, which can save you hundred's compared to the Hyperdrives sold containing a harddrive. And it's very simple to install the 2.5" drives.
