Well alrighty then...received my used but 9.999 condition lens from seller jmcgee131 today. Did I sit around the house shooting paper focus charts...heck no! I slapped it on the 60D and ran straight up to the foothills with the pup. Now I am used to small fast primes and I have to tell you this thing seemed like a beast! It focuses a bit slower than my other lenses but what the wider apertures at the longer FL's has to offer is incredible. I will say I shot a lot at 2.8 and 3.2. A quick one or two at 4.0 were silly sharp and no need to continue. So the shots below were both at 2.8 at around 115 mm and 200 mm. Neither were I going for razor sharp critical focus. More just a couple nice shots. I will def. need some practice with this baby as it is nothing like I have had before, but at this point I think I am pretty happy. So more to come. Hopefully this thread can pick up in action!!

This is one of the hidden gems of lenses for the Canon line up.

It is obscured by probably the best 70-200 ever made.

I have yet to hear complaints about this lens...

Well, I have to say that I am very excited to put this one in my line up. I hope to share lots and see lots of others' shots. Cheers!

Well, got it tonight, holy cow is this lens sharp stopped down just a tad. Heck it's pretty good at 2.8, just not 100% crop eyelashes good.

These aren't anything spectacular, just test shots..

This fish shot is at 2.8, and through 1/2" of aquarium glass (yuck), the background is at max 18" behind the fish. Definitely not a sharpness demonstration, I was checking out the subject isolation at 2.8 instead. Wow the compression is great.

Tested some sharpness on my son, his left eye is the focus point, shot at f/3.5.

2 shots I took tonight. First one is the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II, second is the Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS. Handheld in crappy lighting (on purpose)

2000 ISO 2.8 1/320

You be the judge.

Id say the Canon has a little more contrast, or it's rendering the color a little deeper, either way, that's the only difference I see there.

oh, and obligatory moon shot - with Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 1.4x DGX

Here's a quick question, do you folks use OS #1 or OS #2? And do you have to wait for "1 second" for OS to become effective. Also, are you folks turning OS on and off when you take the lens on and off? I'll never remember to do that! I'm a little confused with the manual. Thanks

Handheld OS1 is for any lens movements while 2 is only for vertical.

OS 1 is for regular stationary shots. OS 2 is for panning.

I believe that so long as the OS is not active when you remve the lens, youre ok. I removed mine with OS in the on position many a times and had no ill effects. Just dont hit any of the meter start buttons, hear the OS engage and then remove the lens.

I agree. The WB was slightly cooler with the Sigma. Weirdly enough the Canon required more NR and sharpening (not by much) which confuses me. The WB could have been that my daughter was standing camera left making her lunch when I took the Canon shots. Either way...as much as I want to do it...it's very hard to justify the difference in cost between these two lenses.
