That is not helpful on a $35 buy.. :-P perhaps I should resell it, ive only had it for a couple of weeks.

maybe I'll kill the amazon order and rig my industry disgrace to work with a second rc2 plate instead.

The best shots these days are coming out of my evening hikes with the hound. I'll get the kidos out soon for some family shots up there. Nonetheless, the pup is always a willing companion!

I went out on a walk to see if I could find some wildlife after a little bit of snow fell, caught a few squirrels and some birds, but I haven't got the hang of getting birds in focus yet. I think I'll put up a birdfeeder on my deck and keep my 1.4x TC handy to practice.

Anyone have shots with the 1.4x and 2x TCs? Does this lens work just as well with the Canon TC or does you have to use the Sigma?

If you like, I can take a couple sharpness test shots tonight after the kids hit the sack.

That would be awesome. Also curious why you chose the Kenko over the Sigma given that they are priced about the same.

I was taking pictures of a lined piece of paper, and while it's in focus just fine, it's not showing sharpness detail, any ideas on some household items I might use?

I chose the kenko because I got a good deal on a used one, and I saw a few people earlier in the thread having very good luck with them.

I run into this when I get a new lens sometimes. Books on a bookshelf maybe?

Ok so I decided on this because it had nice lines and good contrast. Unfortunately it also has some sort of reflective paint that I didnt notice till the flash made it apparent as you will see. all shot with @ 200mm (280mm with 1.4x) - EXIF intact. Overall I think this lens performs pretty damn well with the TC on it.

100% crops below.

wide open, f/4 with TC

Wow. Thanks! Are those the actual stops being used? Or are they converted? I'm kind of fuzzy about how TCs work on modern cameras. Back in the day with manual f-stops on the lens if you put a 1.4 on and set your lens at f2.8 you had to mentally note that you were really at f4. Is that the same or does the camera automatically compensate and stop you at f4 on an f2.8 lens with a 1.4 TC?

EDIT: Actually I think I just answered my own question. I just realize that you said "wide open" at f4 on a 2.8 lens so duh. It's doing it automatically.

I've noticed on the lens itself that you don't need to go a full stop off of f2.8 to get a lot sharper. f3.2 generally renders a much sharper image than f2.8. I see the same thing above where the f4 (wide open) is pretty far off from the other two shots. I'm curious what a shot at f4.5 might look like. If you have to go through a lot of trouble, don't mess with it, but if you are curious as I am and shoot it, I sure would be interested in seeing it.
