Ok so I decided on this because it had nice lines and good contrast. Unfortunately it also has some sort of reflective paint that I didnt notice till the flash made it apparent as you will see. all shot with @ 200mm (280mm with 1.4x) - EXIF intact. Overall I think this lens performs pretty damn well with the TC on it.
100% crops below.
wide open, f/4 with TC
f/5.6
f/6.3
f/8
100% crops:
wide open f/4
f/5.6
f/6.3
f/8
Wow. Thanks! Are those the actual stops being used? Or are they converted? I'm kind of fuzzy about how TCs work on modern cameras. Back in the day with manual f-stops on the lens if you put a 1.4 on and set your lens at f2.8 you had to mentally note that you were really at f4. Is that the same or does the camera automatically compensate and stop you at f4 on an f2.8 lens with a 1.4 TC?
EDIT: Actually I think I just answered my own question. I just realize that you said "wide open" at f4 on a 2.8 lens so duh. It's doing it automatically.
I've noticed on the lens itself that you don't need to go a full stop off of f2.8 to get a lot sharper. f3.2 generally renders a much sharper image than f2.8. I see the same thing above where the f4 (wide open) is pretty far off from the other two shots. I'm curious what a shot at f4.5 might look like. If you have to go through a lot of trouble, don't mess with it, but if you are curious as I am and shoot it, I sure would be interested in seeing it.
I am serious....and don't call me Shirley.
