This spot has recently appeared on my 7d sensor. The spot is also visible in live view.

300% crop

Before I try cleaning this is it a dead/hot pixel? Or is it grease?

I've had dust on my 40d sensor before but I've never seen anything like this.

Thanks in advance.

Tim

It looks like a hot pixel to me.

That's what I was afraid of.

I've tried the manual sensor cleaning with the body cap on tip for hot pixels several times, but it hasn't helped.

Every camera has them, if you expose long enough, but your image is taken at 1/250 s, and then it's definitely not normal to be that obvious.

What do you mean with "every camera has them, if you expose long enough"?

Is it normal for these to exist you mean?

I think I have 2 or 3 not sure.

1 hot pixel ? I would not send my camera to canon for that.

Yes.
I've not had a camera - d30, 10D, 400d, 40D, 1DMk II - that hasn't had at least one.
They're more prevalent when doing long exposures.
Don't worry about it

I received my 7D back from Canon UK today a week after sending it in. I was surprised to read on the repair slip that the CMOS sensor unit was replaced under warranty!

No spot on the sensor now. :D Worth sending it in I think. Thank you Canon.
