How strong are the strap lugs on a 5D?

How much weight would you feel comfortable carrying on just one?

Are you refering to the R-Strap ?? I use my R7 for a 5D MkII and the Canon 70-200 f2.8 L Mk II without any problems at all.

Yeah, although I'm leaning toward the Luma Loop, I'd still be carrying the load by one lug. I'm thinking of attaching the sling to the left-hand lug of the camera, then a hand strap between the L-plate's lug and the camera's right-hand lug. My heaviest lens is the 100-400 (about the same size and weight as your 70-200) and I don't want to have to screw anything into the bottom of the RRS plate on the tripod ring's.

As far as I know the lugs are part of the underlying steel (?) chassis, I'd say they can probably hold anything you throw at them bar a 1200mm mounted on the body. I'd be far more worried about the strap and it's mounting hardware failing.

Good to know they're part of the camera's frame and just held in by a tiny screw or something.

Mike I have wondered the same thing, Im sure Canon has a spec on how much load the lugs will hold,, off to do a quick and dirty google.

Strap lugs are all built into the frame itself, even the bottom strap lugs of 1 series and battery grips.

If anything, most quick releases and straps will snap and fail before the lugs give way unless they are tampered with imo.
