While downloading today's images I ran into a problem. LR3 was unable to read ~half of the images on the card, yet EOS utility was able to download them. I can see previews of the RAW files so I assume all is not lost.

Using arbitrary file numbers this is what happens in LR3.
1-200 download fine
201-300 could not be read
301 downloads
302-400 could not be read

I would think there is a card problem, but EOS utility downloaded all of them.

Any thoughts and advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

David

Verify that all images are present and accounted for on your HD. Import them into LR from whatever location EOS Utility saved them to. Back them up twice then re-format the memory card IN CAMERA. (you DID format the card before this shoot, right?)

Does the camera show all images on the card?

If not: Try recovery software.
Sandisk Rescue Pro does the trick for me every time. (I have one card that once in a while does the same to me: All is fine in camera, but when I put it in the card reader and download, only the first 20-40 or so are downloaded and the card corrupts.)

If this is what's happening: Dump the card. I know I should do that too ;)

All images are on the HD. LR still fails to read certain files when trying to import from the HD.

My CF cards are always reformatted in-camera prior to shoots.

DPP can see and work w/ all images. I did some quick processing on one and exported a TIF - no problem.

For whatever reason LR simply won't read some of the files. That said I don't know if it's a card issue that DPP manages or LR.

OK, I could just keep my mouth shut and save the humiliation, but I won't.
I just realized what the problem is...............my HD is full! DOH!
In my defense you might think LR would say this instead of "files could not be read.
:)
