I bought a new Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens. I took some test shots and everything seems to be fine except the zoom ring which feels very tight compared to my canon 18-55 kit lens and canon 55-250 f/4-5.6 lens.

Is this normal behavior or something wrong with the tamron lens?

That's completely normal. It'll loosen up the more you use it. Also don't be alarmed if it "catches" at a certain point, mine does that and it's a solid performer.

Some cameras, some lenses, plenty of gaffer's tape and beer.

Thanks for the input. I was worrying that I got a defective one... Also it seems to be tight when going towards the 75mm and a bit loose when going towards 28mm. Is this normal too?

Also the lens seems to be heavy compared to the other lenses I own. Is it OK to leave this attached to the camera all the time?

Yeah, that's perfectly normal. (At least mine does that too and I haven't had any problems.)

Yeah.

Yeah I bought the 17-50 from Tamron and it was the same thing. Mine is only 10 days old and I am now just getting to using it quite a bit! Dealer assures me it is normal and Tamron warranties it for quite a while.

Yeah, I had the same thing with my 17-50mm. After a lot of use it becomes a true joy to zoom in and out >.>

Mine was loose actually. When pointed downwards, the lens would extend itself. When flipped back up, it would go back. Kinda finny

I wouldn't be worried if I bought with the 6 year tamron warranty. As I am leaving US end of this month and might not be coming back in a few years, I bought a grey market lens which is $120 cheaper and only came with a 1 year warranty from the dealer.

My 24-70 feels tighter at the 24mm area. It's because it's fully extended at that range. I heard it goes away with usage.

Mine is quite opposite. It is fully extended at 75.

Both my Tamrons 17-50mm and 28-75mm were tight when I first bought them.. After some use, now silky smooth..

Be glad that your zoom ring is tight now.

My Tamron 18-250 zoom ring was perfect when I bought it three years ago. After about six months it was telescoping like crazy with even a slight down angle.

I don't use the lens much anymore, but it still bugs me when i take it out of my bag, the zoom lock has released and it telescopes in my hand.
