Used two 430's one with a Gary Fong Behind and another 430 with a Diffusers , lots of bouncing. Also had a 580 bouncing with built in bounce card. So before you criticize this ghetto rig, we had a alien bee to play with but didn't have the right stuff to connect it, so I made the best of what I had. Thanks!

Overall effect is quite striking - think it would work quite well commercially as advertising for the jacket, but as a portrait: there's a lot of detail-less shadow - including her left cheek - and her face is so soft I'd swear her nose is moving on my screen. Have you dodged areas on her face as well? The effect is almost blotchy. Eyebrows look more like they've been penciled in PP. Her right hand's cut in two.

Cheers,
Tony

Very cool!
The image really screams "look at me" and caught my eye almost immediately.

Too much post for my taste. It is a bit too smooth and contrasty. Just my opinion :)

Yeh too much pp, you lost the detail in the shadows, and the image doesn't look like it has very good IQ.
However I like ingredients you added to the image overall, and is good for your first try, however I think your technique needs a little refining, which probably won't take you that long and you will be on your way.

+1 but excellent for posting your work, shows your open to new ideas and learning. That is a great thing.

Thanks guys for the tips. The big problem here is I failed to check the histogram. Looked good on my screen and got home and pulled them up on my computer and they were all drastically underexposed. I tried to suffice with what I had but it made it difficult.

So basically little less smoothing and, smooth out some of the dodging. Oh btw I haven't touched her eyebrows so any tips on that?

Thanks

Andrew

I agree with the suggestions about exposure and softness. It looks almost like it has a dreamy effect like some people put on wedding photos. Those comments aside, it's a very striking image.

What is the backdrop, by the way? I've shot photos on a red background before and hated how they came out, but I like your backdrop in this case.

Not sure on the background. Where I live we have this group on Flickr and a bunch us try to get together and shoot. This time this woman opened her studio and this other man brought a bunch of models. So this is her backdrop. I really like the backdrop as well I love the different tones it has, I may contact her and ask her about it if I ever get into my own studio work.
