You do know that Italy is bordered by Austria to the Northeast and Switzerland to the Northwest? The Dolomites are in the North of Italy. There is a very strong influence of Germanic styles and language in this part of the country. Chas Gordon

The first time I had pizza was in a small town on the Italian/Austrian boarder. I asked the woman who was serving us how far Austria was from where we were. She paused then asked me to come to the front door of the restaurant. She then pointed to a large rock on the side of the road and she simply said, "There is Austria." About 200 yards away from where I sat and ate pizza for the first time in Italy. It was stunningly delicious!! I had a similar experience driving thru the Dolomites on our way to Slovenia (via 9 kms of Austrian road or something). We stopped at an AutoGrill mini market/gas station and one girl working the counter was Austrian and speaking German and the other was Italian, speaking Italian http://www.paradigmphotographyoc.com
