Indoor arena .. had it's challanges. .. Because I don't have high sync lights, these were all shot on 1/250 sec. .. not perfect.. but it was still a good (13 hr) show. ... just sharing a few shots.

The horses love going nose to nose to challange the cow.

Very nice as allways. The 250th will not hurt you as long as your flash is the light that carrys the picture. In other words with out the flash the shot would be to dark for a recognizable image, because the dwell on your flash is high.

Canon markIIn - Nikon D3 and a bunch of other crap I probably dont need but think I do.

Thanks Dale. .. I understand what you mean. I may have had a little more latitude before they decided to move the judges stand (& lights) farther back from the working area. (that 10' seems to make a difference.. the lights barely reach). I like to shoot at least f4.5 for the dof to get both the horse head and rider in focus. .. and then the sync speed is 1/200.. but I go ahead and shoot @ 1/250. It helps with motion blur.. .. .. and then the rest of the exposure is adjusted via the iso setting.

Here's what it looks like at 1/200 @ f4. w/no lights.

I find that you need to let the strobes supply all the light and that will put your speed somewhere around 1200 to 1600th of a sec. Great work, I love the cutting shots. Who would think a 1000 to 1400lb animal could move like that?

Nice work! I really love the shot of the red roan. The colours all work together so nicely. Great stuff as usual :-)

Thanks Kat. .. at least I got BOTH lights to work this time. (last month, for whatever reason, only one was working.. ugh)
Did you see that teeny little girl in my "Youth cutting" string? .. I still smile.. getting a kick out of her tiny chinks .. and how intent she was showing her horse.
