I just picked up a nifty fifty because I missed my old 50 1.4 I used to use at weddings. I am considering selling it for the canon 1.4 or sigma 1.4. I am also considering the sigma 30mm 1.4 and canon 28 1.8 lenses as well. What do you all think would be best for weddings?

How about an 85mm like the 85 1.8?

That is the other option I was considering but for the application of this new lens i think i prefer normal to wide angle since I have the 135 f/2 it would be nice to have a wider angle for lower light than my 24-70 2.8.

What are you intending to shoot with the lens at weddings?

I would probably use it mainly for receptions. Most of the receptions in my area have absolute horrid lighting. I just picked up equipment to set up 3 speedlites to use with radio triggers for receptions to help with that but I like to do some more natural light pictures at receptions also like dancing so the wide angle 1.4-1.8 lenses might provide some nice results for some no-flash dancing pictures.

I love my sigma 30 1.4 :) I also love my 24L 1.4 II

I've used the canon 50 1.4 at receptions and found the focal length works very well for my needs. If I could only use one, it would likely be the 50.

It really totally depends on what you like to shoot and feel comfortable with.

I sold my Sigma 30 F1.4 has it just wouldn't focus well on my 40D or 7D. I just got a Sigma 50 F1.4 for Nikon, it front focuses pretty badly. I'm not a Sigma fan.

The Canon 50mm F1.4 isn't great wide open either, and I was never happy with its focus performance.

I'd go for a 35L or something like that.

I wish I could afford the 35L or 24L. I just won a aigma 50 on eBay so I will test it out. I've owned the sigma 150 macro and absolutely loved it. I have heard good things about the 50 as well as the bad so we will see. I might sell for the canon 28 1.8

Bummer on your Sigma 30 not doing the do - mine doesn't miss on either of my 40Ds and it's been fun on the 1DIII, too. I am SO friggin' happy I got a gem of a copy, though I have never had a Sigma lens with a problem (knock wood - now my next lens will suck, no matter what it is LOL)
