Hi there

i have 2 mybook external HDD . I use one as my primary storage drive. today i plugged in the second idential drive, it installed but the computer icon could not detect this drive. strangely enough, i can unplug this USB device at the right lower hand corner.

i also have 2 identical WD external elements 2 TB drive.
it could only detect one drive like above.

does any one have any expereice with this in windows 7 64 home premium.
how do i work around this.

this makes it difficult for me to sync or mirror anything especially when i cannot see the drive in my computer to open it.

But it will detect mybook and the wd elements drive and the new mybook with the smartware.
it seem that identical drives will noit be detected.

all drives are NTFS, and new drives all working.

I have three external harddrives connected via USB to my Windows 7 64-bit desktop...two of them are WD Mybook devices, one is 250GB and the other is 1TB RAID1 (two 1TB drives in mirrored configuration)

I think it works because they are different sizes and types

mine detects my book 1tb ok and also 2tb elements concurrently ok and also the other new mybook with smartware on it 1tb ok.

I think the problem is when you have 2 identical WD drive and size that this is a problem. the windows 7 just got confused or something, it cannot show up on my computer and i cannot open it.

It is possible to rename the drives (separate name from its E:\ or F:\ assigned designations)...I recently named mine 'MyBook 250GB' and 'MyBook 1TB'.

So it might be worth a try to plug one in and give it a different name than "MyBook", and then plug in the other one. Worth a try.
