ok got my t2i ordered.. now have to wait for it.. i know i was asking about the t2i 18-55 and 50-250 kit and was going to go with that.. but couldnt find it again.. so i just have the 18-55 coming with the camera...

now i know the sigma lenses are not up to par.. however needing a zoom lense to use for soccer for my son... i am looking for something cheaper to learn on then save up for the big boy lenses....

so is this a good kit or is the 18-50 no better than the 18-55 canon?

http://www.amazon.com …8&qid=1281974766&sr=1-110 (external link)

also.... should i just save the $50 and get this?
http://www.amazon.com …37&sr=1-237&condition=new (external link)

you can recommend a $200 lense for 300mm range that would suffice for the newbie....

thanks

The Canon 18-55 IS lens is much better than the cheap Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6. For one thing, the Canon has optical image stabilization which will let you use a slower shutter speed without camera shake blurring. The overall rating at FM Reviews for the Sigma is also much lower - 5.3/10 vs. 8.3/10 compared to the Canon kit lens. Buying the 18-55 IS with the camera is a pretty good deal.

You linked to the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens for Pentax and Samsung SLR Cameras.

Honestly, I'd just go for the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS (external link)which gives you optical image stabilization for a reasonable price. While IS image stabilization won't help with your action soccer shots, its not THAT much more than the 70-300mm lenses without IS and will be helpful for those non-action shots when the light isn't great. Don't bother with the inferior Canon 75-300.

Can you cancel your order?

I agree with Jack, the 55-250 is one of the best budget zooms out there. I only ask about if you can cancel because it's usually cheaper to buy the kit that comes with this lens, rather than buying it separately.

None of the lens mentioned so far will have very fast AF for sports shooting. Need to pratice a lot in order to get decent shots. It will take more work than say a faster AF lens like 70-200 f/4L but it's also a lot cheaper. Basically assumes that the keeper rate would be lower which means shoot many more shots and select a few that are in focus.

55-250IS is probably your best bargain telephoto lens. If OP really needs to save every dime, try for a refurb unit from Adorama. You can save some money and still get a 1 yr warranty from a reputable company.

Most review I read so far had been rather unkind toward Sigma 70-300. Sigma APO 70-300 however got a little better review.

Still learning

I have the Tamron 28-300 lens (older version). I really like the wide range, and am not dissatisfied with the quality, and according to reviews the newer version is even better. I also have a Sigma 55-200 lens that is amazingly small and light for the range.

not sure how hard you looked...here it is at adorama:

if you are going for the sigma as others have said the APO version is supposed to be decent...i'd rather have the IS on the 55-250mm personally

it's probably cheaper to just buy the lens separately though...you can pick it up for $200 refurbished off of amazon

that kit was $390 more than i payed... and ok has the extra lense... but that means i would have spent $390 on it....

$200 is also more than i wanted to spend.. guess i may not have done good.. well we will see.. im just looking for a $100 zoom lense to get trashed.. i am rough on equipment and need to "learn" how to take care of it, use it and then step up to better lenses......

well good luck...usually $100 zoom lenses can't handle a good trashing...so you may want to try and learn before ya kill of the lens :)...

either way congrats on the new gear
