Edit Edit edit edit
Se below at the bottom for update
Edit edit edit edithave a sort of tight budget, but I desperately need to upgrade.
How would this run photoshop and lightroom? Right now, Its hard to content aware remove anything without it taking 2-3 minutes, if it can even have enough memory to get it done.

I have a XFX nVidia 8800GS Alpha dog video card already
is 650w enough/over kill? I also already have a new case with lots of cooling, lots of ports and a new 1.5t hd.
Can anyone take a few minutes to maybe put together a better combo? I can spend up to $700 but would prefer to put the extra money into a nice monitor, mines terrible for photo editing.

With only 4GB of RAM. you'll still be waiting and will still run out of memory. I have 12GB on an i7 system and still have to wait a little bit for certain tasks.

completely overkill. i don't think 8800gs is really that power hungry, 650w is in low-budget SLI territory.

i'd rather get a OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP 500W $40 after rebate,
bump the CPU down a little and get 8GB instead.

the combo with OCZ Special Ops Edition 4GB is good too ($95 for PSU and RAM), get another 4GB standalone and you're good (if you can come up with another billing address you can rebate on that too)

I already have a brand new 450w, should I stick with that?

Which brand is your 450W? That's a better wattage rating, but quality is definitely a factor in power supplies.

Rest of the parts look very quality. I approve of them.

EDIT: If you live close to a Microcenter or Fry's B&M store, you may find better prices on the i5/i7 (LGA1156) CPUs. Check it out if you have one within driving distance :)

Its a rosewill power supply and I live pretty close to a microcener.

Im also concidering blowing budget and getting an iMac but I don't think i'll get anywhere near my value of performance per dollar with getting a mac.

You need RAM.
I replaced my system for CS5 but still runing CS3.
I now have Intel 8340 Duo Quad 2.8 {like I 5} and 8MG in HP pc6340f w HP2009m monitor.
Previous was Compaq Pentium 4.
The new runs 5x faster than old on comparison test with heavy disk IO.

Rosewill isn't exactly known for quality parts. I would definitely grab a new unit - something like Corsair, Silverstone or Enermax, or anything according to this guide (external link). You really can't go wrong with anything in that thread.

A 400-500W PSU will do just fine. Building a system yourself is the best bang for the buck, but unless you choose carefully you'll have to run Windows and not OS X.

Check out what Microcenter has to offer. You may just find everything you're looking for there for a price that's well within your budget.

For around $700 you should expect an i5 CPU, maybe an i7 if you find a good deal, 8GB of RAM, decent PSU.

i7 860 plus ASUS P55 mobo, $370 (external link)
8GB RAM $170 AR (external link)

I like Corsair PSUs. The 400W is enough but some complain it is too loud (I have 2 and can't hear either one!) $30 AR (external link)

That is around $600 just in case you need DVD drive or some other parts.

Ended up with an i7 with a new mobo with sata 6/USB 3, 4gig ram and 700w power supply for under 500 after tax, shipping and rebates. I really didn't wanna drop 90$ on a psu but my close friend is doing re build and was very adamant about being over 600w (he's actually very knowledgeable but likes to play it safe) so I didn't wanna argue with him haha
Heres the bill, there also 60$ in rebates and the i7 860 was 199 from micro center

Looks good. If you can afford it and can find another billing address (for rebate), get another 4GB of that special ops RAM. I personally like to run all RAM sticks the same type/make/batch/etc. Not a must, just personal fetish.

Yeah I have another address I can use, that ram has a $25 rebate on it too which is nice
I just redid the invoice because when my buddy ordered it, he didn't order it as a memory/psu combo so that's another $25 off

I really need a new monitor to be honest, I'm looking at this but not sure how good it is for photo editing. It gets a lot of good reviews from "professional photogs". But most GWC claim to be pros on newegg lol
