I always blog, no matter what. The only thing I won't blog is a boudoir session if the client requests that it not be shared. Otherwise I always post. Most of my photographer friends always post, too. In fact, I wonder where this bride is finding her photogs! I went on an LA wedding photographer hunt for my own wedding and saw tons of blogs with a wide variety of couples. Maybe the $10,000+ photogs are more selective and the $1,000-2,000 photogs I was looking for a more willing to blog all their work?

Perhaps one of the reasons many of us feel compelled to blog is to generate business, whereas a lot of the $10K+ photogs are so good that people seek THEM out. Therefore they don't feel the need to invest time and effort in blogging.

Good, quality blogging does take a time committment and an effort to produce quality copy writing as well as top notch images. Many people blog, and many blogs are unfortunately tedious, uninspiring and very average. Little effort is invested in visual impact or pleasant layout. But the people do it for SEO or to show Google they are active, which is a valid reason. But that does not mean they are quality blogs.

Yeah, saw that a few days ago somewhere else.
Not sure why anyone would be surprised at that. Just watch some TV and you'll soon realize the trend when it comes to hair care products, lingerie, makeup, etc.

Doesn't make it right or wrong, but there's no sense in b*tching about it like that either. Just comes off very bitter and immature.

I know photographers who charge $10k who blog every wedding. I'm not always $10k, but I get above $10k a fair amount of times (between travel agenting, of course :p) -- and I blog every wedding. Jasmine is up there, and she blogs every wedding. There's tons of us that blog every wedding...

I do know quite a few $10k+ wedding photographers that every one looks up to that blog only the best of the best. But I know just as many, if not more, who aren't $10k photographers who do the same. It isn't really a $10k thing. It's a personal business choice thing.

I happen to think it's the most fair to the client to blog every wedding -- but not because of what this girl said. I don't blog every wedding because I want to combat the general idea of what beauty is, or anything. I blog every wedding because it shows my FUTURE clients why they are going to book me.

I agree with some of what she says and disagree with some, as well.

**** the sofas in fields with pretty people - it's EASY to take pretty photos of pretty people in pretty settings in posed situations (whether they're actual clients or models, it's still staged)

I did appreciate this part.

Blogs have evolved from a largely text based information & activity sharing medium to an image based marketing platform. As such many photographers choose to selectively present weddings on their blogs with an eye to their target market.

As blogs continue to move toward a visual based marketing medium you can expect to see more selectivity on the part of photographers. I don't blog every wedding as often time does not permit but I certainly don't exclude couples based on how they look. And I've probably not typed 100 words in the past 4 years on my blog .. a picture in worth a thousand words :D

I blog pretty much everything unless I'm too busy. There definitely are some events/sessions that I feel don't fit my brand as well - but I'm just more selective about what I share. I'd certainly never exclude someone from my blog based on their appearance or size. All brides are beautiful.

The irony is that she herself may be responsible for what she's attacking. Businesses have one major MO -- make profits. A business' MO shouldn't be to change the general understanding of beauty in a society. That's sort of society's fault (if it's even a fault, at all).

The irony here is that it is your everyday, average bride that often connects with the images of a beautiful bride (whether or not they are size 0 or size 16) -- and it's not a wedding photographer's fault that potential brides don't tend to connect as much with images of, let's say, obese people or same sex couples. Wedding photographers have to make a profit -- so they do what works within reason.

So what happened with this blogger/bride? When it was her turn to put her money where her mouth was, she apparently didn't choose the photographer who shows ugly people (that sounds mean, but I'm just speaking candidly). She proves that it isn't really the photographers who ought to be blamed -- it's the brides. Brides tend to decide and dictate what we as photographers do. So the whole rant has too much self-denial for me.

I do agree with part of what the article is saying.. But people are in it to make money.. It's pretty common sense that at least the first few pictures mesmerize the audience... Seems there's too much anger coming off of this article...

It's not about what a photographer blogs, that's just being thrown around as a method of determining how accepting a photographer can be. It's understood that the "best" work will be in the portfolio, so of course, the most beautiful couples will be prominent there. The blog is another way to see an "average" event and how a photographer would cover it.

Considering some of the remarks I've seen on this forum disparaging people for their weight or looks, there's a damn good reason brides want to know about any bias a photographer may have.

I would never hire someone who had an issue with same sex, mixed race, overweight, or average looking couples. I fit several of those categories, and almost all of my friends do as well.

Funny that someone mentioned Jasmine Star - if you read the comments, someone talks about how she blogs every wedding, but now she's "good" enough to only shoot weddings of gorgeous people.

I see how the article can be viewed as extreme, but when brides have to cut through the bull**** of who is honest and reliable and respectful in a field of "wedding professionals" who often are anything but that, it's really frustrating.

Pretty much whenever I can, I'm defending brides on here, and defending photographers (but not the ******* ones) on my bridal forum. There is way too much negativity and cattiness on BOTH sides and not nearly enough common sense. (However, the photographers are cattier and meaner towards brides by far! From the brides, it's usually a misunderstanding of copyright & costs of doing business, or a run in with a photographer with a horrible attitude or poor at communication.)

I'm the one who brought up Jasmine -- and I never implied that she's "good" enough to only shoot gorgeous people. I simply stated that she blogs every wedding.

And what about the personal responsibility of this bride? That point that I brought up is, imo, strong. She had her chance to put her money where her mouth was -- but in the end she apparently wanted to give money to the photographer who does what she is supposedly against. That makes her responsible for photographers acting this way, in some part, as far as I see it.

And I don't know about you, but I've been on this forum for years and years -- and I can't think of all these instances where photographers are ridiculing people for being overweight or less attractive. And if one wacko did, there'd be ten photographers who would jump in and critique that person.

The fact is, and there is no way around this, shooting people who are more photogenic tends to be easier for most photographers. And people who are more photogenic tend to be more attractive. That's not mean. That's not close minded. That's just reality.

Now if photographers are mocking people for being overweight or not extremely attractive, that's just mean. And being mean sucks. If photographers are turning down overweight people for no reason other than weight, I think that sucks to. But again, I think you might be overstating the issue a bit being that you say you fit into those categories (and therefore might take it more personally than people are meaning). I don't mean that in a bad way -- just a thought ;)

Bobby
