Golden-mantled Ground Squirrels near Mount Whitney:

At Horseshoe Meadow (Actually, this one might not be a Golden-mantled. I just can't tell.):

Image two and three here are very nice and three I think is the best of the group, showing this little one alert and also showing off more of the critter in a nice way here.

All good, I love the bokeh of #2, and the rock texture of #1, but I think #3 shows the squirrel best.

Fantastic captures Lonnie. That first one is just a wonderful shot. Your Ground Squirrels look an awful like our chipmunks. :) What is the size of these, they look rather small compared to a grey squirrel.

Great shots. I like the second one best.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Considering the theme is the critter, my comments are:
1: very cute image to have and to show
2: good shot, but wouldn't be worth scrapbooking if you're into details
3: Perfect shot, probablly could be sold

Actually, that's wood. He was hiding from me in a hole on the side of a log. The other two are standing on rocks, though.

These guys are very different from our normal, city ground squirrels. They were pretty small, too. Just a little over half of a foot in length, not counting the tail.

I thought they were chipmunks too, until I looked them up in my copy of National Audobon Society's Field Guide to Mammals to I.D. them. I flipped through the descriptions and pictures of all of the squirrels and chipmunks in that book this morning and noticed a way to immediately tell which type of critter it is... If it has facial stripes that bisect the eyes, it's a chipmunk. No facial stripes? It's a squirrel.

This little guy looks a lot like the squirrels above, but he has the stripes. That makes him a chipmunk:
