I'm on the fence... Like a few mentioned after tax, is it still a good deal vs buying a used from a potn member? One with a few clicks on it, etc. and more than 90 days of warranty as well..

It is however a good deal vs buying a new body without the tax from an authorized dealer (minus the warranty - new vs refurb.)

Decisions... I think the 50D is the best bang for the buck right now using the CLP. I'm torn between the 7D and 5D Mark II..

No way will you get a low-click 5d2 with more than 90 days of warranty left for close to $1800 (the average after-tax price). The 7D is a slightly different matter...average after-tax price would be close to $1200, and you can get a refurb model from Adorama for $1399. The benefit there is that Adorama gives you a 1-year warranty on it (basically if something goes wrong they just replace the camera).

Amount of tax varies by state and some states have higher tax rates than others. My 7D's tax was $47. YMMV.

Regarding Adorama's warranty - that's not free, it's built into the price. Nothing's free in this world. :p

Actually technically it is free (comparatively)...Adorama charges the same price as Canon's direct store for refurbs. So there!

True. However it probably costs Adorama $30 bucks. Do they send the camera to Canon for service? I'm guessing probably not.

Anyway, I saw Repair Master sells extended warranties on refurbs. $60 for a 3 yr on a camera under $1500. Must be purchased 10 days from purchase of camera. I'm currently researching reviews on the company. So far not liking what I'm reading but most reviews are about TV warranties and contracted service companies not following through with their service call.

This is not true. Right now Canon's store has the refurbished 50D kit for almost $1,100, and Adorama has the same kit for around $950.

Haha, so relative to this conversation, Adorama actually gives you money for the 1yr warranty!

I'm not exactly sure how Adorama's warranty works, but from what I've read they do not, in fact, often send things to Canon. Usually they send it to their own preferred place if it's a minor repair or just give you another camera if it's a major one. What they do with your broken camera after that is anyone's guess. Back to Canon for a second refurbishment?

Price depends on the model (see below), and no one is giving you anything since no cash is returned back to you.

Here's another comparison - Canon's selling a refurb 7D body for $1119.20 w/90 warranty. Adorama's listing same for $1,399.00 with a 1 year warranty. Adorama sounds like the better deal, but if going through Canon, that's a $279.80 discount. My guess is Adorama is using the same warranty service they sell to fix their customer's refurbs, so with the remaining savings through the CLP one could by a 3 year warranty for $165. That gets you a longer coverage period and a few bucks left over in your pocket to have a nice dinner out with your significant other and your two kids.
