DIM "Digital Image Mover" (external link) is a small and free program for copying/moving your images from card to HD.
It has some powerfull features for renaming files and folders and an option to create an instant backup of the image, so you never have to worry about overwriting or deleting a file in postprocessing.
The interface is a bit clunky and takes a little getting used to, but you can set up everything for automation.

For digital neophytes who just want to publish pics to a web page, this is a (very basic) fast and easy-to-use program:

Also a great program for that is JAlbum. (external link)
It will generate thumbnails, build your webpages and link to either the original files or resized copies, then upload to the host server for you. Just point it to the directory where your files are located and choose an output directory. Very easy to use. And it's free. Lots of different page designs, too.
Try the "Vertical" skin with the Black.css "Style" for a clean album that doesn't get between your work & the viewer.

You can also order the images without worrying about the file names or dates. Press the edit button in the image ordering section. You will then see a text editor pop up with each image on its own row. Just rearrange the images and save, then generate an album again. Only downside is that you'll have to do that for each folder if you have a multi folder web.
Enjoy!

Yes, the Noiseware Community Edition (external link) is free and FAST, FAST, FAST. A 13mpix from my 5d takes 2 to 3 minutes using Neatimage on a P4-2800 with 1 gig of ram and striped raptors. With Noiseware it takes 10 to 15 seconds.

Scroll down to the middle of the page for the Community Edition.

Hi,

can't believe no one has not talked about Picasa yet. I saw it on a telly program and loved the words FREE. Downloaded it from Google and yeah, not a bad little program. If you want basic file viewing with directory sorting and simple editing then this is the program for you. But the best feature is the timeline option. With this you can see all your photos in thier directorys going back to the first photos your took. It was a really nice way to refresh my memory about old photos I took back in 04.

Check out

Personally, I love it!

I haven't tried it yet, but I just stumbled across NDNoise http://ndnoise.free.fr/ (external link) Which is freeware and has a nice looking interface - I'll try it out in a few hours.

Feel free to PS and repost anything I post in any forum - especially if you say what you did. - Adam

Well, that obviates the need for this thread. "Everything that any photographer could want all under one roof" is actually true here.

Great find.

Not all the programs listed there are still Freeware - in particular, PTLens now requires (pretty cheap) registration to work for more than 10 images.
