Hi all, I've a few questions for those who have owned / used / played with the R10!

First question is.. can it fit a 1D2n + 16-35mk2 and 5D + 85mm 1.8, both mounted?

Second question is.. can it fit a 1D2n + 16-35mk2 + 70-200 2.8IS + 580EXII + Bottle the size of said 70-200 all inside? I would assume that if it's possible to do that, I can always replace the bottle with a 5D in case I need to use two cameras. Yes, I would prefer for my water bottle to be inside, because adding a pouch to the outside increases it's length.

Third question is.. any chance I can put A4 papers somewhere inside without folding it up?

And the last question.. if my small umbrella is 2inches in diameter and long-ish, can it fit into the outside stretchy (or... as I have read from reviews, not so stretchy) pouch?

Thanks!
Zexun

And a side question. If I want to carry a 5D + 16-35 + 70-200 + flash + bottle with me around the whole day for travel, should I get this or a backpack?

Yeah I saw the review and commented about it, but it would be a little rude to keep bugging Jacob with questions in his own thread!

This is based on my experience with this bag...

First question... It might be possible to squeeze two bodies with lenses attached but that's all you're gonna get inside of it, meaning no flashes and other large bits inside the main compartment. You cannot have anything in the side pockets either.

Second question... Yes you can minus the bottle. If the outside pouches worked like they should then you could possibly carry the bottle on the outside... but they don't. I can't even fit a regular bottled water without squeezing the actual bottle. The "stretchy" side pockets aren't really stretchy. That's really the only defect (if you wanna call it that) on this bag if I'm honest.

Shown above is my old 1D III (I have a 1DIIN now) & 24-70 inside the bag with a 70-200 & rocket blower next to it & a flash on one of the inside (left) pockets. The other inside (right) pocket carries my spare battery just fine.

Third question... I never tried, I've always folded mine and stuck them on the outer back pocket. If you're trying to keep them nice (hence not folding them) I wouldn't recommend it. The bag is way too soft to carry any sort of documents without a folder.

Final question, as I said, the stretchy pockets on the outside don't really stretch all that well but I'm sure you can fit a small umbrella in there with a bit of work.

If you're gonna carry a lot of gear for long periods of time a shoulder bag might not be best. Unless you're actually using your gear in hand while carrying the bag with your other stuff I'd recommend getting a backpack. I've shot a 6 hour race with this bag carrying all the stuff shown and at the end of the day I was pretty beat. I don't think a backpack would have made a difference in my case though..

As a side note, I don't put anything in the front pocket, if you do it'll make the bag bulge quite a lot. And other than the non-stretchy "stretchy" outer side pockets this bag is probably the best shoulder bag out there without a doubt in my mind. Even if you're not using it full time, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the detailed reply Mikey!

Regarding the 1D2n + 16-35, 5D + 85, I know it'll be a tight fit but as long as I can transport it to a location that way, take out to shoot and then pop it back in, I'll like it.

The way I'll use the bag would probably be the same way you do, replacing the 24-70 in your pics with a 16-35mk2. Swapping between the 5D and 1D2n as and when necessary, depending on the shoot. Where'd you fit that blower?

The problem with tight fits and trying to cram too much gear into a smaller bag is that the gear takes wear due to scuffs becuase the gear clunks together. If you are in doubt, get the 20 and KNOW it will fit and look after your gear properly.

I don't think it's the depth that's the issue. More like the wideness. And I really don't need a 30 for that!

1D type body with 16-35 mounted in bag, 85L or 70-200 2.8 will fit easily in dived main compartment next to it, put the 5D in front pocket, end outside pkckets are really tight and stiff, I carry a MKIII spare battery in one and a 12mm extension tube in the other and it is kind of hard to get my hand in there to get them out quickly.

Where'd you fit that blower?

Blower is next to the 70-200.

Hope this helps, I tried out the 20 and 30 at a local store. If you need the space to put stuff where you can get it out very easily the 30 is really nice. All of them are about the same weight which makes me sorta wish I got the 20. I need another bag anyway so I am probably going to ad a 20 at some point but I like the 10 a lot.

Thanks for the pictures and replies everyone (:

@ Tommy: Wouldn't it be more difficult to dig out a shorter lens in the R20 compared to the R10?

I would assume so. Depth isn't your issue here so it's either the 10 or 30. I'm actually considering the 30 myself.

Yes, I was trying to say the 30 may be better for you. I sorta wish I got the 20 over the 10 because I used to have an Urban Disguise 35 and I miss the extra room a tall bag provides but I still like the 10 and if I do get a 20 I will keep the 10 since I recently sold my UD35 and my backpack ( I never use camera backpacks ) so I need something to hold my gear at home. I am down to just 3 bags. Heaven forbid :-}
