My first post from Cape St. Mary's primarily showed the birds in their habitat. Here are some more images including a few in-flights.

The fog forced me to work hard in post processing to show any details and contrast in these photos.

1. On the wing

IMAGE: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s219/Squidcan/Newfoundland%20Birds/Gannet_07.jpg

2. Bank, bank!

IMAGE: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s219/Squidcan/Newfoundland%20Birds/Gannet_06.jpg

3. Gear Down, Flaps up

IMAGE: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s219/Squidcan/Newfoundland%20Birds/Gannet_03.jpg

4. More nesting Material - I really had to work to recover details in this image. The fog was exceptionally thick.

Even with the fog Stephen, these are great shots. I would love to see these birds in person.

I agree with Sharon: despite the fog these are great shots. That must have been some visit you had, Stephen! The Gannet is not a common bird where I am, but we do have them at the coast and I go there sometimes to photograph them. Such beautiful, graceful birds.

I especially like that 3rd image, well done Stephen. I bet your gear was dripping with water after this shoot.

#3 for me Stephen...fabulous series that reminds of a kid spending summers in the Gaspe & visiting the Gannets on Bonaventure Island.

These birds are so delicate looking, I love the feathers and coloring... they are so smooth looking, they don't look real... nice work Stephen.

Thanks Sharon. You should plan a trip to Newfoundland. Between Gannets, Puffins, other seabirds, whales and the odd moose where could you go wrong? ;)

Thanks Levina. I've seen them in both England and Canada.

Thanks Steve. It actually wasn't too damp but my clothes were worse.

Thanks Scott. I haven't got to Bonaventure yet but it's on my "bucket list". :D

Thanks Dave. Yes they do look smooth. The only birds "smoother" in appearance in my mind are the Bohemian and Cedar waxwings. They always look air-brushed to me.

In some ways the fog even ADDS to the images, making them a bit ethereal.

Thank you Judy. It certainly was ethereal as they arrived back at the colony from the fog, sometimes with some additional nesting material as in the last photo of the series.

Nice, Stephen. I'm partial to number 3 too...and glad you didn't get rid of all the fog's effect! I also like the pose in number 2.

Awesome Stephen! I was there in 2005, and it is nothing short of a religious experience IMHO.
And it was foggy then too! (it's always foggy!)

Great shots, love the pose in the 2nd one especially.
