Are their brands I should stay away from. Can someone recommend a cheap battery on ebay? I want 1 or 2 more batteries for when I go out and see the world on the weekends and I don't want to buy a terrible brand.

Check dealextreme (free shipping). This one (external link) is very cheap and has positive reviews

I have two Opteka batteries that came with the Opteka grip. Both seems to work ok so far.

I picked that same battery up on ebay for 3 bucks :) Figured it would be good to have a second battery.

I purchased the grip along with two extra batteries from Deal Extreme for my XSi and now use it for my newly acquired T1i... http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14865 (external link)

Never had the slightest issue for about a year now and the buttons, etc. seem to be of pretty good quality. Nothing coming apart yet haha. Hope that helps.

When you spend $600 on a camera and more on a lens, I would recommend that you get the best batteries you can afford, not the cheapest. There will be those who claim that batteries are batteries and that they're all made in China anyway, but I would let a Google search on battery problems be your guide.

Not all Chinese factories have the same quality control.

With all due respect, if even the Pearlstone knockoff of the Canon lp-e5 which is made in China costs $30 at B&H, what do you think you're getting for $3?

If the battery sucks. Lesson learned.

I've had the DealExtreme batteries (use 2 in the grip) for a long time now and they last as expected. Very long time between needing a charge.

The place I got mine have a perfect rating for their sales. So I am not worried about the battery. I will get a grip after I get a couple more lens I want.
