I use a 19" consumer Samsung monitor to edit my images, and i'm a pro. It works fine, calibrated. Also RAM can be added later, and video cards can be upgraded.

sorry but I cant stand huge monitors. 24- 27 seems like it would be a bit too big for what I am used to or really want.

ohh... I just love big monitors tim.but I can't see the need for those other stuff...

Tim you are using a TN panel? wow!! :D I thought IPS/PVA is a must for pros hehe...

Both prices are WAY too high for a PC.

I have a 27 inch Samsung monitor. It's only around $350, and it's amazing.

No idea, it's a monitor. My prints look pretty much like my monitor, and given I have test files and test prints from them from my pro lab I know what to expect if there isn't a 1:1 match.

While I do some of my own color correction, and it looks good, I often leave it to the lab (Queensberry). I'm generally happy outsourcing things I don't want to do.

haha ok..

I will go to the mall later and look at the best 24" TN consumer panels and I might grab 1 later if I could find something I like.

I would have wanted the Dell 2410 but I couldn't get it here...

Some good pro's (often techies) really strongly recommend a good monitor, especially if you do all your own color correction. I haven't ever used a really good monitor, but my next monitor will be the Dell 2209 or the HP which is meant to be a little better. I guess ask me in 6 months and i'll have another opinion.

Dell's outlet has the XPS with i7 chip, 8GB RAM, etc for like $1000 or less. They also have the 22 inch IPS for 200-300. Can't imagine that is not enough performance. Spend a little extra on external drives, etc.

All true, I just figured i should go ahead and do a heavy build and go ahead and make it last.

The only problem is, it will last just as much as a machine that's 1/2 that price.

Anything more than $1.5k is overkill nowadays.

I just want something a little bigger, and I figure I might as well get a monitor more suited to photography while I do it.

Install your own RAM. And if you're gonna spend that much, you might as well buy an SSD for your boot partition and an HDD for your data. Forget about RAID if you already have a backup solution.

"Would you waste your money on this computer?"

Well, it would certainly be a waste if you bought either one, and no I wouldn't waste my money on them!!!

Here is one I just spec'ed for another thread:

24" is like the perfect size. Trust me. Been down that road already. But you don't need more than 8gb of ram max right now. And instead of RAID, get a SSD to help your performance of your system.
