Is there any reason to use one media over the other? are sd cards better than cf cards? are cf cards harder to find? or is it a simple matter of preferance?

CF cards are faster than SD cards, however I think there is a new SD card standard that may have closed that gap.

CF cards tend to be more durable, but the pin configuration is easier to damage inside the camera. SD cards tend to be more widely available and cheaper, at least for the consumer cards.

Pretty much CF cards being faster.

CF cards should also have a higher theoretical limit - 144PB if I am not mistaken.

One problem with CF cards right now is, that the limiting factor is the camera's write speed - even on an 90MB/s card, most cameras will get around 30-35MB/s - http://www.robgalbraith.com …ti_page.asp?cid=6007-9784 (external link)

So I'll venture a guess that CF cards will be ahead for a long time.

(Besides the obvious point that there is more space for flash memory in them)
