My 'generic' flash has suddenly decided not to sync with the shutter.
It is flashing...and to the eye looks like it is in sync...but lcd is telling me otherwise.
Tested it on 3 cameras..20d, 40d and 50d, without success.
Should I just bury it or is there perhaps something my fried brain hasnt tried yet.
Thanks.

Does it flash when you press the 'test' or 'open flash' button?

No it is not flashing when the test button is pressed. It is certainly flashing when I press the shutter button.

HUH???? The unit 'flashes' on the cameras, but it does not appear to be captured in the shot itself, and it does not flash with the test button. I am assuming your 'generic' flash is indeed ETTL compatible, so it is emitting the light upon request of the preflash command from the camera, but the main firing circuit is not being triggered (via the Test/Open Flash button or via the camera trigger in the hotshoe. Sounds like the trigger circuit has gone bad.

Has the flash worked before? If it is new, was it described to work on your camera or Canon EOS cameras?

If you mount the flash on the 50D, can you bring up the camera's Flash Control menus?

Can you then navigate to External flash func. setting?

Can you get to Wireless Set?

If so, is Master flash set to Enable?

The flash is not new and has been working fine up till now. I also cannot trigger it with my 602's anymore.
Quickly checked the 50ds external flash function settings and it is saying either incompatable flash or flash is turned off!! It recognizes my 580 ex and my other yn 467.
Thank goodness I have backup gear, I have a wedding today and one tomorrow.
I will do a bit more fiddling with it after this weekend, before I 'bury' it.
Thanks for your help..... Cheers Val
