Hey, my names Will. I just picked up my first 'real' camera probably about a month ago.

Im shooting with a Canon Rebel XTi, mostly with just the kit lens for now (18-55mm), but a good friend of mine when we go out shooting lets me use his 50mm/75-300mm...but anyways. Just looking for any advise and maybe suggestions for the future and the picture below.

ps. I haven't edited it at all, straight from the camera. I plan on messing around a little with CS5.

PSS. yes, i do realize its advice. Not advise...

Thanks!

The focus seems to be on the spring when I would ay least expect part of the hand to be sharp.

PP=Post processing, and you converted it to B&W that classifies ;)

Change your focus point to the centre (if you havent already) and not auto detection. Might help you to focus on the right areas instead of letting the camera think what you should be focusingo n. Nice job, kinda get what you were goin for. welcome to POTN. Be prepared to be praised and be slammed for you work. Whatever the CC is, learn from it.

lol I know what PP means.

B&W doesn't count since I actually 'edited' it to B&W before the picture was taken. lol

The focusing was set on the far left focal point. I manual set it there. I was going for the fingers being a little out of focus, but yes, I do agree I have too much of the forearm in focus.

But I mean, all in all, I was happy with the way it turned out...to be honest.

Hi Will

Next time try manual focus. Set up on a tripod and take several shots at different focus lengths. You can see after which shot matches what you were going for.
