Full Frame & 50L vs. APS-H & 35L

I shoot environmental portraits and other related images destined for editorial content in an online magazine. Pixel dimensions are usually 772x515. I shoot using only the 1D Mark III and 35L. I mostly manual focus everything (I love LiveView) and shoot from a tripod. Typically I am shooting indoors and use ISO 100 f2 1/200 utilizing external strobes.

On the surface this system sounds overkill for our pixel output but the option to print must be available, need good subject separation (bokeh), often work in tight/small locations, and our retouchers prefer the sharpness and clarity before resizing.

I am wanting to move to a 1Ds Mark III for more mega pixels to help with our prints and extreme cropping we sometimes do. Based on my current working distances the 50L seems the logical lens. What concerns me is the 50L and the focus shift even when manually focusing.

Anyone opinions about anything I am doing?
