Do you think Canon will ever increase the FPS of the Rebel line to at least 5 FPS? or would doing that hurt the sales of the XXD/7D bodies too much?

I doubt that fps alone would be enough to make a difference in sales of one model over another, but I still don't think we'd the Rebels get faster unless there was some new design that was also applied to the other lines to make them faster as well.

Only Canon knows buy how many would buy the 7D if the T2i did 6fps? Why not add a rear wheel, the level and wireless flash while you're at it  A faster shutter would cost more though I'm not sure how much more. Then there's the additional data throughput, the buffer on the T2i is short enough as it is, at 6 fps you could only take 1 second of Raw with the 6 shot buffer, perhaps even less with it that fast it might only manage 5 Raw before flashing "BUSY".

Canon has had the ability to add all kinds of cool things for 10 years but they don't. The 1D can bracket 7 shots, set minimum and maximum shutter speeds, apertures, ISO, and tons of other stuff that is just pure firmware, no reason at all why it couldn't be in all Canon bodies except that Canon chooses not to. There are hardware features too of course but a ton of it is firmware pure and simple.

Probably not. Entry level cameras are low on features for a reason. They are meant to draw you in to the line so you buy glass and grow into canon's system. The only exception would be if the industry has a breakthrough so that the FPS rises across the board on all models.

Bingo. Otherwise they would cannibalize sales for more advanced bodies. If you need those features, just step up.

The 50D doesn't cost that much more.

Only if their direct competition did the same.

The "system" for sure worked on me, and does for many other people.

I bought into SLR's with the XSI, upgraded to the T1i (for video, LCD and other features) and finally to the 7D. I did exactly what Canon wants people to do. And as soon as the 5D III comes out, I will be looking at that...

You do not want to sell a product that kills another in your line for less money. You want people to upgrade for small features, like FPS or better build, rear wheel, microadjustment, etc...

It's really hard to buy any technology and be happy with it for long term, after a little while even a 1D get old and you want the next best thing, it's a human thing.

Oh, they are increasing in speed - I just checked - just more slowly.

550D 3,7fps
500D 3,5fps
1000D 3,0fps

Well, it looks like Canon did increase the FPS on the Rebel finally, they just happened to call it a "60D" now though

From recent experience with a Rebel DSLR - like earlier this afternoon with a T2i...

...the camera has no shortcomings when used for action photography. There's no practical reason to wish for anything different, from the way the T2i responded in actual use a few hours ago.

Its a nice enough shot, but all it does is show that you made a nice shot with that camera. Although I'm no fan of spray and pray sports shots, there are times when increased FPS can help.

Why is everyone so obsessed with fps ??

If you time it right you could do it with one shot, but a 40d with high FPS is killer. Just dont get it. are you going to get that much better of a shot than what the rebel can do now ?? Theres a lot to be said for timing and anticipation-- guess you cant teach that to a camera-- and fps wont fix it either.

obviously you don't need an FPS increase !
