Why is everyone so obsessed with fps ??

If you time it right you could do it with one shot, but a 40d with high FPS is killer. Just dont get it. are you going to get that much better of a shot than what the rebel can do now ?? Theres a lot to be said for timing and anticipation-- guess you cant teach that to a camera-- and fps wont fix it either.

I have a 30D w/ 5fps and I set it on low burst(3fps) instead of high 98% of the time.. Except for rare action sequences I want, 5fps just gives me too many basically identical shots to sort though. Can only imagine what 8 or 10 would be like.

Exactly. I was constantly looking at 3 and dumping 2. Going through 5-8 is a PIA.

Yeah, but its nice for catching batters mid swing. Otherwise I prefer timing.

They did. They just call it a 60D now, but I think we all know it is a glorified Rebel.

If the batter can time the bat to hit the ball, you can time the shot, can't you? (Kidding ;))

There are definite uses for it, but I think a lot of people just want it for bragging rights. Like all the wieners acting like the 60D's 5.3fps is the biggest downgrade in history

I could if I could look through the lens and see the pitch coming, but through a damn tele the field of view is so narrow. I just wish they had called the new camera something else because I tend to agree with the people you called wieners in that new cameras with the same nomenclature shouldnt go backwards on features.

Bat-on-ball image from a T2i.

IMAGE NOT FOUND
Byte size: ZERO | Content warning: NOT AN IMAGE

Camera Model: Canon EOS REBEL T2i
Focal Length: 225.0mm
Aperture: f/5.6
Exposure Time: 0.0020 s (1/500)
ISO equiv: 1600
Exposure Bias: none
Metering Mode: Matrix
Exposure: shutter priority (semi-auto)
White Balance: Auto
Flash Fired: No
Color Space: sRGB

Again, the T2i has no shortcomings as an action camera and there are no problems with the continuous frame rate.

No. But then again the T2i's target market is people who do not know what that means anyway. Pros will buy it because it's a compact, capable camera, but not for its fps clearly.

And again one photo proves nothing. It works for you, doesnt mean its enough for everyone.

the XSi (450D) has no problems with a 3.7 FPS rate

Do you think Canon will ever increase the FPS of the Rebel line to at least 5 FPS? or would doing that hurt the sales of the XXD/7D bodies too much?

sure they will! as soon as nikon increase their rate on entry camera to that level

Good enough because you say it is? Once again showing one shot taken with that camera doesnt prove in any way that its fast enough. My slow 5D can get one shot if I hit the button at the right time. Obviously some shooters dont get what they want at rebel frame rates, claiming that because you got a shot so thats enough is pointless.
