Hello Everyone. 4 weeks ago, I bought a used 40D camera body that has a minor shutter release button issue. The shop told me that it was the problem. Now, after 3 weeks of being with them, waiting for parts, I got a call from them. They told me that it was not the problem but something bigger and the body needs to be sent to Canon for further assessment.

If you were the buyer, what would you do? would you contact the seller back and hopefully arrange for a return of the body? Would you go for the route to send the camera body back to canon and hopefully wont get charged as much as the price of the camera body?

Thanks everyone.

If you bought it "as is" or from a private party, you're just out of luck.

I have a 20D body you can have cheap, it just needs a new mirror box—which costs about twice at Canon service what a rebuilt 30D body costs at Adorama.

it's about 4 weeks, i don't know whether the seller would honor it though. But start a conversation with the seller shouldn't hurt. If the seller doesn't want to help you out, then you are no luck then.

what was the agreement when you bought it? Did they offer a warranty or a return within 90 days? If so I'd do that, but if not then I think you may have to just have it repaired.

Same boat here, bought a used 1D MIII with focusing issue. Previous owner bought it used from Adorama having in house "excellent" rating and then passed it on to me after 90 days out of warranty. A week in my hands and had to send it in for calibration. Now quoted $126 which is not bad, but knowing its inherent and repeated problem, I emailed Canon asking what's the repair warranty and since I believe that the fix has been done and tried at least twice if not three times prior, should I get a replacement equivalent instead of trying to fix the same problem only to wait for the next exact symptom to occur. Still waiting for an answer, repair autorization still on hold waiting for an email reply.

Shoot now, fix later. ;)

Sorry to hear, but I would definitely talk to the other party about the issue. Did you buy the camera knowing that there was that issue?

Not aware of the focusing issues until I joined this forum, after a desparate purchase going on a shoot only having my backup 30D on hand. (My 50D jammed on me the night before) History mentioned, I thought I was getting a good deal - was until the problem completely presented itself. Tested fine before purchase, I thought it shot a bit soft, not knowing its full focusing issue.

Still waiting if Canon will reply to my email, for the meantime, repair autorization is put on hold. By the way, Adorama never replied to the guy I purchased this from. He emailed Adorama in my behalf since I've only had the camera for three days when I called him back to report the problem. Sad thing is, it was just six days passed it 90 days used warranty! Adorama are you listening?

If was the seller, I would probably tell you "I told you it had problems". But it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe you can get at least a partial refund.

One thing weird is that we both are not aware of any problems. At least on my part, i thought it was working perfectly. When I got it and tested it, there was a firing problem. then, i told the seller and he was honest in telling me that he never knew any issues with it as it was stored when he got a new camera body.

Im just hoping we could talk about this. if the camera was sent to canon, it could cost me the same amount as the price I paid for it. the shop told me it may be the circuit board or a change of shutter.
