Back focus button inappropriate for landscapes?

on both bodies I have (IIn and 30d), they are customized to focus with the back button. I did that for sports shooting at the time.

Is focusing with the back button inappropriate for landscapes (specifically - sunrises - which I will shortly be trying for the first time)? Rather, should focus be better achieved with the traditional half-press? I have the wired shutter release cord that will recognize the half press.....

thanks...........

Back button AF is possibly better for non-moving things like landscapes than it is for sports because it allows you to fine tune the focus manually and then not worry that it's going to change the focus point when you press the shutter.

I don't really see a reason why back button focus would be inappropriate for anything...

I feel the same way about it as Ken...Plus, I don't want to be bothered taking the time to change that function back and forth.

The only reason I could see wanting to put AF back on the Shutter would be for a situation where I can't physically reach the camera and can't pre-focus it either so I have to use a half-press to initiate AF.

Thanks for the information, I was worried about whether it wasn't right for that kind of shooting. I am going to try to experiment a little a try my hand at a sunrise for the first time. I am finally in a nice location, and hopefully the weather will cooperate, been waiting all week for the clouds to go away... and then rain...

I am not expecting to come away with anything useful, but hope the learning experience helps me eventually get it right..
