Thanks for the info. I was at MacDougal's Gap last Sunday morning for the sunrise (the link in my previous post). I went up the Greys to where the road is closed - sure do miss being able to make the entire loop-drive.

I may give the Box Canyon hike a try - need to do a bit of conditioning though, it has been quite a long time since I did much hiking (and my knees talk to me a lot these days - some days they scream!)

If you are in the area, let me know.

The beginner clicks the shutter and says "Let's see what I got." ... The experienced photographer thinks "How can I capture what I see?"

Wow, amazing shot. At first I thought it was a painting. I might have to make a trip out to Wyoming.

If you come out this way, let me know - goes for anyone on this list. Everyone wants to go to YNP, and if you haven't been you should, but for the most part it is way too crowded. There are places around here where you won't see another human all day long. I find that much better than fighting for tripod space in YNP.

I live in Alpine, WY - about 35 miles south-west of Jackson. Lots of beautiful scenery here, and there is an elk feed-ground just a couple miles south of town - great winter-time shooting opportunities - just from the road, you are much closer to the elk than at the much more famous feeding-grounds north of Jackson.

Well said, GJim. YNP and GTNP are both extremely overcrowded, but that does leave areas like this nice and quiet for those more inclined to search out secluded spots. I found a killer comp along Greys looking towards the Salt River Range that I'm hoping to photograph sometime this year. Hope I get the time as it was a totally sweet spot with the river making a great leading line.

One word... Wow! That cloud blows me away, and the way the river leads you to it really works.

Very well done, excellent comp and detail. Is this a blend?
