As I fine-tune my post processing for the new camera, here is another 12800 shot..

That's pretty nice, TS

Below is H2, ISO 51200 is okay for web sized images maybe, the H3 setting is pretty useless even for me.

Your first shot is freaking amazing for 12,800.

I wish they all came out that way, but they don't. The grain shows in these 2. They are good for 5x7, maybe 8x10s though. Plus the missed focus in low light with the 1D and 50mm... grrrr

EDIT: low light focus is better with One Shot, as others have suggested. There is a point where AI servo stops AFing, and you have to flip it over to One Shot. Still frustrating...

Well, it's not the best in the world, but it's not bad for an ISO 6400 image pushed by 1 1/3 stops...

Taken with the 7D and the 55-250 IS...

^ It has a very nice moody feeling to it, sometimes grain doesn't matter due to content. :)

It seems that at high ISO, the blue channel is the one that gets really noisy first, but that is somewhat dependent upon lighting. Generally, very high ISO is used at night in conjunction with artificial lighting which typically is biased towards the red end of the spectrum. I recently found a neat trick on the NAPP web site for handling noise in individual color channels. Open the channels palette in Photoshop and check the noise in the individual color channels. This works best if you view the color channels in grayscale. To reduce noise in an individual color channel, go to Filter > Blur > Surface Blur and adjust the parameters to give the desired amount of surface blurring (read the instruction in Help if you are not familiar with this). Surface blur is intended to be used to smooth noise in areas that lack detail while still retaining edge details. This can also be used at lower ISO to clean up sky noise.

Again, I'm very impressed with my 450d. Iso 1600 pushed 4 stops! ~ iso 25600.

Could you please explain how exactly you did 4 stops pushed down and back up (assuming manual and looking at the shutter at the meter -2, doubling it, then ACR since DPP doesn't allow 4 stops back up)? Your ISO 6400 shot posted before looks worse but pushed only 2 stops. (http://img4.imageshack.us/i/img39562.jpg/ (external link))

This is the XTi pushed to 6400.

Also, with the larger images you have to post a link to the image, not image itself, per POTN rules. :)

I set shutter speed 4 stops lower and then i backed it up in ACR
On iso 6400 shot, there is no noise reduction an the focus was missed a little bit so it lacks detail. I forgot to mention that i used Noiseware Professional to clean up the noise.

There is 100% crop of the picture above.

Still working on the action, I think I will have to make a new one for high noise content, like I did for the 7D. I was hoping I could just have one action, but it isn't going to happen. Working on a action to clean up 25600.
