Saw this thread and decided to see what the T2i is made of! Little bit of NR in DPP then some more in photoshop elements. Would typically do a little surface blur or something on the background, but I could use this if I needed to!

Here are a couple crops that are both 25% SF of the original images at ISO 12800 from my 7D of our thermostat guard protecting it from all who might be tempted to tamper with the setting. The location was a very dark hallway where the only light came from the light in a room about fifteen feet away.

The first image is a JPG straight from the camera with high ISO NR and auto lighting optimizer both turned on. No exposure compensation was made. Aperture is f/5.6 and shutter is 1/40 second.

The second image is from a RAW capture where I pushed the histogram as far as I could to the right without clipping. This amounted to 1 2/3 stops of exposure bias. The aperture was f/5.6 and the shutter speed was 1/13 second. I used ACR to process the image where I pulled the exposure back by 2/3 stop. I added a nominal amount of chrominance NR in ACR. Once in Photoshop, I used NeatImage to clean up most of the noise. Next, I checked the blue channel and found it to be rather noisy while the others were clean. I applied a bit of surface blur to the blue channel. I found that shooting RAW and exposing to the right did more to clean up noise than any other efforts at NR. Neat Image and surface blur easily handled the remaining noise.

Just added a 5D2 to my 7D, so decided to try out the high ISO. Here are a couple ISO 25,600 shots (it was pretty darn dark!)

That last pic looks like your pooch is about to grab that camera out of your hand and bury in the back yard.

Here is another 25600 shot, it took alot of work to clean up even for a web sized image, it was pretty under-exposed and blue banding abounded.

The NR and sharpening artifacts are clear to me, but of course the audience on this site isn't representative of viewers in general. The result is really nice for casual use. Any special tools used? Selective application of NR?

You guys and ladies, make me sick with these 12800 ISO pics. I don't think my 50D will even go up that far.

That'll be the H2 setting, you'll have to turn it on somewhere in the custom functions menu.

Joe,

Here's a 12.8 shot with your 50D. Noise reduction with Noiseware. My Rolex was in the shop. :p

I love your high ISO shots. What's your technique?

And I wouldn't even bother with that... It can barely do 3200.
