Have a buyer for my 70-200/2.8L. He's a new member at Fred Miranda with like 8 posts. He paypal'd me my $950 and sent me a PM on Fred Miranda giving me his shipping address. There is no address in the paypal transaction, just says

Seller Protection:
Not Eligible
Protection for items not received

Transactions without a shipping address aren't eligible for seller protection. We recommend that you contact cody dalton to make sure this payment was authorized. For more information, see our tips to sell securely (external link).

We have no shipping address on file.

It was an instant transfer...What's my downside.???
Should I tell him I can only ship to a confirmed address and refund the $

No, gift option. In gift option you don't have any shipping address and it'll tell seller that you are not eligible.

Was there any fee on you? probably not.

I think what you should do is talk to your buyer. I have sold some items where the address was not confirmed. I talked to buyer and and I felt comfortable in sending stuff and all worked out fine.

Paypal will not save you if the other guy wants to cheat you and in that case confirmed address and signature confirmation will be of little use.

No, it wasn't the gift option, they charged me....
As far as calling him, I PM'd him and he was surprised, had the account for years and always had the same address.
Anyways.....If it was you or me or someone with some history, even 3 or 4 transactions, I'd be more willing to give them the benefit of the doubt....But zero history, no confirmed shipping address...No deal I guess.

Sometimes Paypal also messes the address but as you said if not comfortable DO NOT GO AHEAD.

I've pay'ed for a few things that paypal sent an "unconfirmed address."

At the worse case, send the item with full insurance and delivery confirmation. Back in the days of money orders over the internet, no one had confirm addresses :)

Even if someone has a confirmed address, I like to use the internet to do a little research. Google and Bing maps will quickly show the character of the delivery address. And usually a person will have some sort of link to their work, a facebook or linkedin page, or something other reference. If the PayPal shipping address was unconfirmed, and if I couldn't tie his email address and/or physical address in with his name, I'd be concerned about whether I was dealing with a real person. At that point, I'd give him a phone call and explain the situation.

Keep in mind that, even with PayPal, it's essentially the same as accepting a credit card from someone you met on the street. If you're not comfortable risking the cost of an expensive lens, don't do it.

Replacing my Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 17-55mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 150-500mm with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I still have the 17-55 and the 30 available for sale.
