Charging battery when half charged?

Is it bad to do this? I forgot I was going somewhere tomorrow and haven't drained my battery yet.

It shouldn't be an issue if it happens infrequently,
but I've come to understand that too-frequent charging of this sort
may have an impact on battery life.

I don't think its an issue anymore with the newer LI-On batteries... you don't need to drain it to recharge. AFAIK.

AFAIK, it has an impact only on NiMH and Ni-Cd. they need to be drained and then recharge.

Yes Nickel-Cadmium and Nickel Metal Hydride batteries have a memory so it is best to fully discharge them in order to maintain a full charge cycle throughout its life. This is not a problem with lithium-ion batterie though

Yes, but MOST of the batteries used in cameras, and AAA or AA
batteries, still are NiMH. LI-On batteries are still largely reserved for use in notebook
computers and other high-use devices which mostly require a longer running time
at full use.

yeah ok, I just took a look at the D700's battery and it says Li-On

My eneloops though are NiMh... how big is it a factor if I don't drain these batteries?

I have 8 on my battery grip but I don't have spares so I usually can not drain them in a single shoot/day. and I recharge them afterwards for them to be ready the next day.

should I just buy spares? $$$$$$$$$$

. Li ion batterys do not develop a memory so they can be charged any time you get the urge.

Most of the new NiMh don't have memory either.
