A rare SB2C-4 Helldiver was recovered from the waters of Lower Otay Reservoir in San Diego yesterday. This aircraft ditched on March 28, 1945 and has lain in 90 feet of water for 65 years.

More when I get them processed...

In pretty amazing shape considering the circumstances.

Nice. Ya know, for sitting in the water the last 65 years, it doesn't look too bad. Hope it's restoreable.

It ditched the day my Mom was born. 36 years to the day later it was my birth day. :)
Would be really cool if it could be restored! Anymore shots?

The plane is going to be trucked to the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL where it will be restored and placed on display...

I have more shots. It'll take some time to get them processed.

Good shot. I'm looking forward to more. Now if they can find a TBD Devastator.

Apparently there is an organization that has located two intact Devastators in the lagoon of Jaluit Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

Very sad to hear :( You know that NMNA needs another dead airplane sitting in their building. Let someone who will fly it have it! Cool picture either way.

I spend too much on flying to have much equipment worth listing!

The US Navy still claims ownership to all of it's ships and planes no matter how long they have been lost. No US Navy ship or plane can be recovered without their permission and when it is they own it.
