When it rains, it pours!
Since I didn't like the way DPP was working with EasyPhotoPrint Pro, I was checking out other options, like printing from Irfanview or PS Elements. Somewhere in the process my printer driver apparently got screwed up. Now my computer says it can't recognize the "usb device" whenever I turn the printer on.
At first I thought it was a hardware problem so I plugged it into my other computer. That computer also said it didn't recognize the usb device, but I had never installed the Pro9000 software into that computer. When I installed the software, the printer worked fine. So the problem with my initial computer is the software.
I've uninstalled the Pro9000 driver and reinstalled it (twice) and that didn't fix the problem. I've also used system restore to restore the computer to the state it was in right before I installed the printer, then I reinstalled the software. That didn't fix the problem. I've gone into the hardware device manager and uninstalled the usb port that's having the problem (Interestingly, it calls it a "usb mass storage device" like it thinks it's a hard drive or something.) When I plug in the printer and turn it on, it recreates that port and shows it bad again.
The only other way I can think of to fix this is to uninstall ALL my Canon software because apparently there's something besides just the "driver" that's causing the problem. (Having a Canon scanner, 2 printers, and a DSLR means a LOT of Canon utilities, and when they install, they all intermingle in the Start menu and the Program Files folder!) Does anybody have any less painful ideas?
I'm using Windows XP sp2.
Thanks
How in the world did you EVER come up with that?:p
