General purpose lens- go prime or zoom?

My Sigma 30 has overtaken my 24-70L because it's just much funner to use. Primes force you to move, and you can get nicely creative with it.

AND it's much lighter than the 24-70L. And it's WAY sharper at f/2.8 then the 24-70L. And it is TWO stops faster than the 24-70L.

That said, the 24-70L has its place in my bag when I'm doing paid work and need the focal length flexibility of a zoom.

I'd go for the zoom but if you want to limit depth of field get the 30/1.4. It should have noticably less than the 28/1.8

I spent some time with my friend's Tammy 28-75 today and it made my decision even more difficult. The 17-50 is looking more enticing... ugh.

Primes are overrated , unless you need the speed . For general purpose get a zoom .
