Personally I'm not keen on the second one, it seems to lack everything the first one has. Jo

The skater does seem just a bit too dark, though. Canon Powershot A720 IS, Sony a350 with kit lenses (my mum's :P), Thinking of buying either SX20 IS or SX120 IS

A little hint of movement on the skater's part would be nice too. Perhaps a slightly slower shutter speed for some blur? Thank you for your critique. As you said, it's beyond my control and I wish I could do better!

However, they were moving too fast and this is the best I can shot.

The first shot is lovely & bright with good sharpness, but the composition doesn't feel right - I think like the first reply says, it's got a bit too much going on. Did you get any close shots on the dancers? A tight crop on just one of them would be gorgeous. Totally agree. Actually I sat in the first row the middle position. I tried to change my position in the 2nd show, but I still like this one after comparison.

The second, in-focus skater should occupy center of the frame and would make the composition more engaging. ThomasOwenM wrote in post #10769719 I really like the second shot. Robbin.De.Hu wrote in post #10771008 Thank you!You kind of understood me. Love the idea of textured background courtesy of skating marks but the tire marks are distracting. It takes away from the 'flattened frame' illusion of the silhouetted figure against textured background (which I personally dig and have been searching for an opportunity myself whenever I can).
