Crazy man crazy. Last year part of Canon's ad campaign was "Canon. Official Camera of the NFL". And yet just try to get into an NFL game with your prized Canon and white lenses. Go figure. Just seems kind of ironic.

Exactly what I pointed out in another thread regarding the possible banning of video-capable dSLRs from professional stadiums.

Canon shows the progression of "Junior" from Pee-Wee to the Pros through video but if you shoot video at an NFL game, you're violating the "rights holders" agreement and will get your a$$ kicked out.

Go Figure...

I meant the pros on the sidelines being denied the use of video-capable dSLRs...

There isn't a seat in Candlestick that's less than a quarter mile from the playing field so that's not an issue with the paying customers!

The way I see it, two good seats at an NFL game plus parking/tailgating, snacks and a couple beers at the stadium concessions would cover the cost of a pretty decent new lens. I'd rather stay home and watch it on TV (best seats in the house, no 15-minute wait in the bathroom and/or 30-minute wait in a beer line, no drunken slobs to deal with, etc.) and not have to worry about trying all kinds of ingenious/devious ways to sneak in a lens which is only going to give me mediocre game shots from the stands anyways.

These are some of the the reasons I like going to and shooting at college games rather than pro. Its much cheaper, less crowded (at least in my area) and less rules in general regarding lenses

You have that right. I also liked last year they were talking about being active and eating right, I think it was called NFL 60 for kids. The next thing they show on the video screen was the Lays potato chips were the official chip of the Jets with guys munching on them...............they will do anything for a buck and don't get me started on PSL's. That was nothing more satisfying then throwing 20k down the toilet for the right to spend substantially more for season tickets!

That's great.. It is kind of interesting that the author knew to include (and not include) 'red rings'. Maybe he is a POTN member. :)

It's a comic strip about photography so of course he knows what the lenses look like. ;)

I am going to Lambeau field Thursday to see my Colts play the Packers. Seeing a game at Lambeau field is on my bucket list.....

Even so...I am taking my G9. The webiste says 11" on lens length. I could take my MKIII and 70-200 2.8...but why? I want to watch the game, have a dog/beer and get some snaps to remember the night. Seams silly to take nice gear into a game and shot from the stands....but that is just me.

i'd say it's nothing like that...me taking shots from the stands in no way affects the photographers on the field...

except it effects most people around you once you go over the 6" rule. That's a big reason why it's there IMHO. It's not a FL rule, it's a size rule. They don't want you in the stands with a massive camera because it gets in the way of the other spectators... You can take in any P&S with a superzoom on it that has 800mm effective FL if you want.

the thing i'm wondering is if he waited for someone with a small child...it sounds like he didn't have a kid...where'd the dirty diaper come from? :)

Agreed.

The only really cool spectator shots I've seen of Pro sports are fish eye shots taken in stadiums and those lenses are way under 6". ;)

Photos for proof of cheerleader daughter. One is of her and I when they dressed in pink for breast cancer awareness. The other is of her football card. I think last year was the first year Topps included cheerleader cards when you bought football cards and she was lucky enough to be chosen.
