A couiple of pics from Chester Zoo a couple of weeks ago, I guess the 400mm lens takes away the creeping up on these guys. Have seen in the wild but aren't easy to photograph at close quarters.

Very Nice, these don't look like Great Blue Herons to me. Does anybody know exactly what they are?

Very nice shots the colors really threw me at first here thinking this was one funny looking Great blue but with a little searching it looks like this is a grey heron or at least as close as I can find online to it. Both images are very nice both have some weaknesses but one is the other birds on the water and the second one is the hurricane fence it's perched on. Still both nice shots as posted.

Grey Heron is essentially the UK's GBH.. (great shots!)

It's difficult to tell one from the other via photos.. without the location info,. as the Great Blue is quite widespread and includes a significant variation of color. On top of that the term "grey" is an oft used coloquialism in some parts used to describe the Great Blue,.

Anyway.. I agree this is most likely the OK's Grey Heron and wonderfull shots of it.
