I want to rent some gear at the chance of getting some great shots, but some say it is a hoax and some say it is not going to be.

I use a 5d, would a 400mm or 500mm be too much? Or maybe get a 2x TC for my 70-200 f/4.

I am really hoping this is going to happen, but there are too many stories saying it is a hoax.

It is just an urban legend that has been circulating for the past 10 years or so. There won't be "two moons" in the sky.

Yes, it is Mars, everyone is calling it the "two moon" evening. I would love to see it, after doing some more research for the past 10 minutes I have figured out it will be fake. Definitely a bummer though.

It's one of the longest-running internet hoaxes around.

Even NASA has a blurb about it:

If mars got close enough to be as apparently large as the moon, then very, very bad things would happen that would surely mean the end of humanity.
