Right side of face is way to dark, he looks like he is missing an eye. A reflector would help, or moving the camera to a lesser angle than the apparent 90 degrees it was placed at.

You migh tas well just cropped the dark side out.it lost all detail.and agree about the eye looking as if it were lost. Had you treated the dark side with the same lighting, it would have been a striking photo( outside of the crop):)

Not addressing the location of the flash, but the composition is less than optimum in my opinion. I don't believe the I've ever seen an image where the lower lip was cropped in half. I'm not sure what your were getting at here.

Also, this is not a criticism of you, but what's the deal with "OCF" as a photographic technique of special significance? There's a wide world of flash usage beyond whether it is on the camera or off it, as you so effectively illustrated in this image. There are basically 360 degrees of positioning in two planes with one flash. That makes the category of OCF pretty broad, and therefore, I think rather meaningless.

Next time I'll put a piece of white foam board on his right side to make the lighting more even. As for the crop - I was just testing out the flash, when I reshoot to print the image I'll adjust the composition. Thanks for the tips guys!
