I currently have a pair of genesis that I'm running with a 580 and 480exii.

I was thinking bout getting a set of the yn603s 3 or 4 receivers and a trans

or is firing the lights off by a hotshot 580 ok?

Or should I do a sync cord for the genesis and sslave the 480 when i want to?

The rf-602's are inexpensive enough, I would recommend having one for each light. You can slave the Genesis lights off of a triggered flash, but that gets unreliable if you ever move your setup outside. Plus, things do break over time, and I'd personally rather have have enough equipment to do "plan A" (every light with a receiver) with the option of using the optical slaves on the Genesis as a backup if needed ("plan B") than to start off with "plan B" and be stuck if something ever stopped working (i.e. no "plan C" available).

Getting rf602 is good idea, they are cheap and somewhat reliable (would not say 100% but close, never had bad experience with them).

I use 602's - one per Genesis and one for my 580exII

I did use an optical slave trigger on the 580exII for a while, but it got annoying when I wanted to hide it behind a model or chair, and no longer had line of sight.

Anyone else have issues with the RF602's not working with the Genesis due to polarity?

Also do the 602's come with the Sync cords needed to attach to the lights?

Bought mine used and they didn't have the right cord, not sure what kind of cables they come with, I bought some from FlashZebra.com

Mine work fine - I've read the opposite too.
