I was out this weekend at an air show and tried to get a few videos of planes whilst flying (not me flying, the planes), with the sunlight on the LCD screen and looking up so retinas at minimum; it was near impossible to follow the planes. I have no trouble following them when looking through the view finder and taking stills so wondered if any one makes an attachment for the LCD screen which gives a similar view to the one you get through the view finder. I mean a fully enclosed one not the 3 flap type that just shield the screen.

Thanks; that looks like just what I'm after, had a quick look for someone selling them in the UK but no luck, I'll have a more in depth search later. Cheers.

http://www.productiongear.co.uk/ (external link) sell them over here for £100 ex VAT which is where I went to get it. Nice bunch, popped along to see if before I bought it and had a look at all their other film stuff.

Since I had a client paying for it for a job I didnt get tempted to put more on the bill, although I wish I had ;)

A few things that I do notice with it is that it doesnt have diopter, which means if your eyesight is a little off then it might be annoying to use at first. The other thing is that is also magnifies how jerky the live view is. Although those little problems are nothing because when you have used it for a bit its really worth it.

The plus points outweigh the negative, easier focus, a bigger view, another point of body contact makes it so much more steady, magnetic connection lets you remove it quickly to use the viewfinder.

£100 is a lot for something that just cuts out the sun and magnifies the screen but it does work well.

Wonder if you people would want to see how I manage looking at the screen whilst using 5d2 for video and various other cams while in replay mode in bright sun
It takes 30 mins to make and works very well costs less than £2 or so

While you need to use the 5d on a tripod/monopod for video as the viewfinder doesnt fasten in any way to the screen and you cant see all the screen (internal size of pipe is 55mm) its so easy to move it around to catch what you need to see for focusing use and its great for replay/chimping and reading icons on top panel without putting glasses on
