Chris these are all great shots, I believe the one you need help with the ID on is a redpoll, at least that's what it looks like to me. Not sure which variety it is though, either the common redpoll or the hoary redpoll.

Nice series of shots...I think you need an 800mm for those Kingfishers! Anymore birds from your trip?

I believe that red spot makes it a Common Redpoll. But, I'm no expert ID guy.

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.

Thanks for the ID Sharon! And the nice comments too. I always wish I had an 800mm when I'm shooting! I'll try to link some more pics later.

Here's a few more. First the Kingfisher with a catch. She beat the fish on the dead tree for a few minutes to kill it before swallowing.

Where in Anchorage did you take the kingfisher shots? I lived there for 8 years and never saw one. They're too skittish to get good pics of them around here, so I guess I'll have to go back to AK to get pics :(

I went to the Potter Marsh boardwalk (near the start of the Seward highway) and lucked out on the sun. Anchorage set a record this summer for most consecutive days with rain. Approx 29 days!

Wonderful! The only kingfisher shots in my collection are blurs, tail going off stage-right, etc!
