I think the photograph might benefit from cropping away the bottom 1/4 of the image - there is a lot of water there with nothing happening. A crop would also place the boat closer to the bottom third of the image, which ought to result in a more pleasing composition. Jo

pixelmangler Member 134 posts Joined Aug 2010 More info | Following Jo's words, I cropped some of the water in the foreground and a small amount of sky, for the reason that there was a lot of sky not adding to the composition. I moved the boat away from the centre of the frame and adjusted the histogram sliders. I moved the highlight slider left until it just touched the edge of the histogram and I moved the midtone slider to the right to add a a little more depth of tone. I think that there is a little too much green in the water but that can be adjusted to suit your tastes. if you keep on doing what you have been doing, you're going to keep on getting the same result

I should have rotated the image to stop the water flowing uphill. if you keep on doing what you have been doing, you're going to keep on getting the same result

I isolated the 4 elements for local contrast adjustment and hue and saturation for the sky and water. There is a green cast in the original and it's still an overcast day.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the comments. I have decided it look much better cropped and that yes there was a colour cast on the picture. I have re done the picture cropped and white balance adjusted and have toned down the sky a bit.
