I've been a long time lurker here and I haven't done much posting. Might as well start now. CC welcome, I hope you enjoy!
These were taken on Aug 16, 2010. I live in the Northwest Territories, Canada. I tried to get out of town some to lessen the light pollution but then the Northern Lights shifted to be over the airport which is very visible.
This is my first try at the Milky Way. XTi 18-55 @ 18mm f3.5 30sec iso1600 & trusty tripod! I think I caught two meteors in the image, maybe satellites (second image has them circled) There is some light pollution in bottom left, also a tad OOF due to forgetting where infinity on my kit lens was.
Now this is one image of a few I managed to capture before the show faded away. That's the thing about the northern lights, they are more random then a storm. They can come and go extremely fast in my area so if you don't have your gear with you when they show up, you've missed capturing them. Again XTi 18-55 @18mm f3.5 5sec iso1600.
